For many, the Tipo 33 Stradale is considered the most beautiful Alfa ever. Quite rightly! The mid-engine sports car, designed by Franco Scaglione and only 99 centimeters high, still enchants the observer today with its butterfly doors, the curved and slightly widened wheel trims, the narrow air intakes in the front with the Alfa heart in the middle and the sloping headlights. Compared to the racing car base Tipo 33, the wheelbase has been extended by 10 centimeters to make the cockpit more spacious. The centerpiece was a 2-liter V8 with ultra-short lift and two overhead camshafts. With 230 hp (instead of 260 hp), a short-tuned six-speed transmission and a weight of 870 kilograms, impressive driving performance was possible. In under six seconds, the Tipo 33 Stradale sprinted to 100 km/h, with a maximum speed of 252 km/h. Only about 18 units were built and are traded today at top prices. All information about the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale can be found on this page.
However, about a dozen copies make it onto the road under the name "Stradale". How many exactly is not completely clear. It was designed by the former Bertone designer Franco Scaglione. The Tipo 33 was to become his masterpiece. The chassis is manufactured by Aeronautica Sicula, a company specialized in aircraft construction. Carozzeria Marazzi makes the body entirely of aluminum.
Not only Alfisti considers the car to be one of the most beautiful coupés ever built. At its presentation in 1967, the waist-high racer fascinated with its butterfly doors opening upwards. In the driver's back, a V8 rages - although only two liters large. Dual ignition, two distributors, mechanical injection and four overhead camshafts provide a good 230 HP. At only 700 kilos, the performance is more than impressive. A speed of 260 and acceleration from zero to 100 in less than six seconds are top marks at the end of the 1960s.
So is the price, at almost ten million lire. Only a few sports cars were more expensive at that time. According to contemporary sources, the hand-picked buyers include Shah Reza Pahlavi and the French Olympic ski champion Jean-Claude Killy. Actress Gina Lollobrigida is also impressed - at least in the movie "Un bellissimo Novembre"
